The God of Fire
First, let’s have a brief history lesson, tinged with yet another Roman influence.
The Roman god of fire is Vulcan, known for his association with fire, metalworking, and craftsmanship. He was often depicted as a burly figure wielding a hammer and tongs, working in a forge. Vulcan was considered the god of fire in all its forms, including the destructive power of volcanic eruptions. He was the son of Jupiter and Juno (Hera).
Vulcan was also associated with the creation of weapons and armor for the gods and heroes, often crafting legendary items like Jupiter's thunderbolts. He was worshipped through various festivals, the most notable being the Vulcanalia, which included offerings to protect against fire and ensure good harvests. Despite his rough exterior, Vulcan was known for his skill and creativity, representing the transformative power of fire in both creation and destruction.
So here we are, we have just set up our new company with our name linked to some local Roman heritage, now our quest for a professional built pizza oven trailer begins.
Right, now the history lesson is over, the story continues.
For weeks, we explored various oven trailers, examining different price points, styles, and construction types, but nothing truly caught our interest. We gained a lot of knowledge about different construction methods and chassis models, but it wasn’t until one day during our research that the right option seemed to appear out of nowhere. We discovered a company in the West Midlands that produced exactly what we had been searching for, even though we hadn’t fully realised what we wanted until we found it.
We reached out to Dave Gilbert from Inferno Wood Fired Ovens right away and asked if we could visit to see how his ovens were made. He graciously invited us over, and after a comprehensive factory tour, we knew we had found the right fit. The ovens are exceptionally well-built by hand, using high-quality craftsmanship and materials. It was clear that they are almost over-engineered, making them perfectly suited for British weather—and, crucially, for Britain’s roads.
The oven we chose is the Vulcan+ model, so it’s amusing to discover that we unknowingly selected an oven named after the Roman god of fire! We didn't realise this until a friend pointed it out, but what an incredible coincidence!
With the sale agreed and payment received, we patiently awaited the words, “Your oven is now ready for collection.”
